DAR DASHT
THE MASTERPLAN – REVITALIZATION
Dar Dasht is the old quarter north of the bazaar area and west of the Friday Mosque in Esfahan/ Iran. It has been brutally cut in half by the Abdorrazzaq Avenue in the 1960s. This fact has caused a depopulation and the abandonment of the traditional courtyard houses.
The key for a successful revitalization of Dar Dasht is the recreation of the Bazaar in this quarter. To achieve this it is mandatory to recreate the former veins step by step.
After the reconstruction of the workshops connected to the main Bazaar around Jameh mosque the smaller part of the bazaar next to the Dar Dasht minarets can be reconnected.
The introduction of streetmarkets should provide the necessary final steps to successfully reanimate the main bazaar of Dar Dasht.
If there is ongoing market activity, more people would have a reason to stay in Dar Dasht. According to estimations 75% of the citizens of Dar Dasht are working outside of their community in one of the factories in the periphery or elsewhere. Bazaar shop owners leave their units empty and unused, because it’s not worth it.
